Critical Regionalism

This project begins to explore the ideas of critical regionalism through the study of Alvaro Siza’s work. Situated adjacent to one of his seminal works, the Bouca Housing Complex, the project either builds upon design elements Siza uses to respond to site conditions or reinterprets design motives in order to address unique conditions on the site. The project is intended to act as a transition between the Bouca Housing complex, where Siza introduces a parallel spatial configuration that is different from the typical perimeter block urban condition in the adjacent context.
